Starting during half term and continuing into this week, it has been National Nest Box Week. We have marked this week by increasing the homes for birds around our school garden with three additional nest boxes.

Over the last year, we’ve seen an incredible increase in the diversity of birds visiting our garden, from robins, blackbirds, wood pigeons, jackdaws, dunnocks, house sparrows, blue tits, greenfinches, wrens, and the wonderfully noisy long-tailed tits, to the less common treecreeper and goldcrest. It’s been wonderful to watch such a variety of birds visiting our garden, and we can’t wait to see which new visitors arrive next!

Alongside putting out food for the birds, we are also creating a natural larder of seeds and berries. Our wildlife-friendly gardening approach encourages insects throughout the seasons, providing vital food sources and helping to create a thriving, balanced ecosystem in our school garden.

A huge thank you to Zelda from Gazelle Crafts, who generously donated an incredible nest box to our gardening club when we attended the Southport Flower Show last year. We are so grateful for your support.

And another heartfelt thank you to one of our gardening club members who kindly donated an extremely unique bird house, your generosity makes such a difference.

Every small action helps us grow a space where wildlife, and children can flourish together.
