EYFS Maths Learning This Week
This week in EYFS maths, we have been learning all about “one more than.” The children explored this through lots of hands-on play and activities in our provision.
They enjoyed building towers, counting how many blocks they had and then adding one more at a time to see what happened to the number. This was a great way to practise counting and talk about numbers in a fun, practical way.
We also linked our maths learning to our People Who Help Us topic. The children added one more firefighter to the fire engine, counting how many there were before and after. This led to lots of number talk and counting practice.
We also sang number songs such as “One Big Hippo Balancing” and “One Man Went to Mow,” which the children loved and joined in with enthusiastically while practising counting and number order.
The children are becoming more confident with counting and understanding what happens when we add one more.
