Do you love penguins?
Year 1 loved learning about all things penguin today for Penguin Awareness Day. This day is held annually to celebrate penguins and make people aware of their dwindling numbers. We have been learning about hot and cold places and the animals that live there so this was a perfect addition to our topics.
The children were very creative - they made paper penguin cutouts, penguin masks and even Oreo penguins!
They also tried balancing as many domino penguins as they could on the rocks like an Emperor colony and used tweezers to pick up pebbles to make a Gentoo penguin nest.
They fed a hungry penguin with the correct numbers after reading the clues and helped penguins escape from the yeti by answering silly questions.
We loved learning the funny penguin dance.
Some children were fantastic at the penguin Olympics where they had to balance and egg on their feet off the ice, show of their waddling and belly slides before jumping into the ocean to catch a fish.
We all had a perfect penguin day and learned a lot too!
