Mrs Nelson and Mr Lomax have been proudly representing Trawden Forest Primary School at the prestigious Chelsea Flower Show this week. We were incredibly honoured to be invited as guests of the Royal Horticultural Society as National winners of the Gardening with Young People Award at the RHS Community Awards last year.
What an incredible and inspiring experience it has been to see first-hand how gardens can tell such powerful stories and shine a light on important causes and communities.
Of course, one of our favourite gardens had to be the Classroom Garden, created to give children a voice and to highlight the powerful role gardening can play within education.
For us, much like our own success at Southport Flower Show with our garden “Nature’s Refuge: A Sustainable Garden”, which achieved a Large Gold, the highest award possible, this garden represented far more than just a beautiful display. It reflected how gardening can empower children, nurture confidence, and wellbeing, encourage environmental awareness, promote healthy lifestyles, and inspire future aspirations and careers.
This made the garden feel even more special and incredibly meaningful to us.
The gardens throughout the show were absolutely amazing, including the Parkinson’s UK - A Garden for Every Parkinson’s Journey, The Woodland Trust: Forgotten Forests Garden, The Children’s Society Garden and Bat Conservation Trust’s Nocturnal Garden.
We have come away with so much inspiration and exciting new ideas for projects and opportunities for the children to get involved within our own school garden… watch this space!
