This week, Year 3 went on a trip to the DEVA Roman Experience Centre in Chester!
They got to spend the day traveling back in time to Ancient Rome to discover what life was really like for the Romans.
They began their adventure by setting sail on a Roman row boat, before arriving at a magnificent Roman fort. They walked through the Market street exploring the pottery stalls, the butchers and even got a glimpse at some unusual Roman cuisine. Lots of the children were very intrigued by the cooked flamingo tongues! Next, they stepped into a Roman latrine and learnt about how they kept "clean" using the bathhouses. Our final stop in the fort was the armoury, where they got the chance to look at Roman weapons and compare different types of armour.
In the afternoon, they transformed into Roman soldiers and practiced their battle march through the streets of Chester. They marched in formation to the ruins of the Roman Amphitheatre, where they got to reenact gladiator fights and practice following soldier commands. They even tried to use their swords and shields to win the battle against their teachers!
The children (and the teachers) all had a fantastic day and walked away saying how much they had enjoyed learning about the Romans. It was wonderful to see the children joining in with every activity with confidence and enthusiasm, and showing so much curiosity with their wonderful questions!
Well done Year 3!
