There was plenty to keep our Gardening Club children busy this week, with some wonderfully unusual harvests, more seeds to sow and hot buttered sweetcorn to enjoy outdoors!

The children harvested a colourful collection of weird and wonderful squash, along with a batch of pumpkins. With so many different shapes and sizes, they made quite a display! We also checked in on our tromboncinos to see how they were getting on.

Another batch of microgreens was sown, ready for more taste testing in the school yard. These little crops are a lovely way for children across school to try something we’ve grown.

Our sweetcorn went from plot to plate! The children harvested the cobs and peeled back the husks before we cooked them outdoors and enjoyed hot buttered sweetcorn together. They also took a section home to enjoy with their families.

We picked more runner beans and gave the bed a tidy, helping to care for our growing space as the seasons change.

There was time to browse the seed catalogue too, with each child choosing a variety they would like to grow. Choosing seeds is an exciting part of gardening, and it was lovely to see their interest in what we could grow next!

A busy session full of harvesting, tasting and planning - with plenty still to look forward to in our school garden!
