Our Gardening Club children have begun an exciting new growing adventure! Just over a week ago, they sowed two different varieties of wheat to overwinter in our school garden as part of our ‘Crop to Crust’ project. We’re growing Crusoe wheat from Limagrain UK and heritage wheat from Shimpling Park Farm. The children will follow their progress through the seasons and compare how they grow.

Once the wheat is ready to harvest, we’ll collect the grain, grind it into flour and use it to bake our very own loaves of bread!

It’s a wonderful opportunity for the children to discover the journey behind an everyday food, from sowing tiny grains in our school garden to enjoying bread they have helped to grow and make.

A big thank you to Limagrain UK and Shimpling Park Farm for supplying the wheat and helping us bring this project to life. We are now delighted to see the first green shoots!
