This half term, Year 3 have been learning all about London! Across English and Geography, the children have been busy becoming explorers, researchers, map-makers and even tourists as they discovered what makes our capital city so special.
In English, we stepped into the wonderful world of Paddington and followed the fantastic adventures he had in London. The children even became tourists themselves, exploring some of London's most famous landmarks. They researched fascinating facts about landmarks such as Big Ben, the London Eye, the Tower of London and Buckingham Palace, building up an impressive bank of knowledge along the way. They then used their knowledge to create their own non-fiction information leaflets about the landmarks, which were full of fascinating facts and incredible drawings.
In Geography, the children dove even deeper into London by exploring its different human and physical features, locating London on a range of maps and investigating the reasons why London is an important capital city. They also created their own maps of London using keys and symbols. It was fantastic to see them applying their geographical knowledge and thinking carefully about every detail to make their maps accurate.
We even took our learning outdoors in our Forest School sessions where the children worked together to recreate some of London's famous landmarks! Can you guess which London landmarks our budding architects created?
