October 26th is National Pumpkin Day, and what better excuse to celebrate the wonderful pumpkins we’ve grown here at Trawden Forest Primary School!

From planting tiny seeds and watching the first shoots appear, to seeing those enormous leaves spread across our allotment and discovering pumpkins hiding beneath them, it’s been quite a growing adventure!

Our pumpkins have certainly kept us entertained over the past few months. We’ve watched them grow, change colour and swell into all sorts of shapes and sizes, with plenty of excitement along the way.

Of course, the best part has been the harvest! Our Reception children enjoyed gathering a lovely batch of mini pumpkins, while our Gardening Club children each picked their very own pumpkin straight from the vine to take home. Some of our homegrown pumpkins have even found their way into the kitchen, including a delicious batch of pumpkin hummus!

But there’s so much more to a pumpkin than a Halloween decoration. From learning about the life cycle of a plant and the importance of pollinators, to discovering where our food comes from and how we can make the most of what we grow, these colourful autumn favourites have given us plenty to explore.

And the growing doesn’t stop at harvest time! By saving seeds from our pumpkins, we can begin the whole adventure again next year.

Happy National Pumpkin Day from all of us at Trawden Forest Primary School!
