Year 4 travelled back to the 17th century today when the History Man visited for a fascinating (and rather gruesome!) journey into the Great Plague!
The children discovered what people believed caused the plague, the strange remedies they used to fight it and what we now know about this deadly disease. They also had the chance to explore historical artefacts and experience life in the past!
Then it was time to get hands-on! The children dressed in historical clothing, wrote letters to loved ones and even tried weaving wooden slats to build a wall.
The highlight? Creating their very own 17th-century medical potions! Using herbs and spices, the children mixed up some rather interesting remedies that left our classroom smelling VERY unusual! We're not sure the potions would have cured the plague, but they certainly made our noses suffer!
A huge thank you to the History Man for bringing our learning to life. What a fantastic experience!
