What do you do when you have a basket full of freshly harvested apples? You make outdoor apple crumble, of course!
Our Gardening Club had another wonderfully busy session, with plenty of harvesting, preparing, cooking, planting and tasting.
From practising knife skills while preparing our apples, to unearthing potatoes, picking runner beans and juicy tomatoes, there was lots happening in the garden. And then came the really delicious part…
The apples were transformed into a homemade outdoor apple crumble, which we enjoyed with vanilla ice cream. It went down a treat!
Our freshly harvested apples included apples from our very special apple tree, descended from the famous tree associated with Sir Isaac Newton. We also used the giant apple that had been sent in by one of families - it certainly made a fantastic addition to our crumble!
The last of our maincrop potatoes were unearthed from their growing tubs too, revealing another fantastic crop.
We also harvested another bumper crop of runner beans, along with another batch of juicy red tomatoes that were ready to pick from the polytunnel.
We also harvested the last of our mini melons, cutting them up and sharing them around for everyone to taste. Juicy and sweet was the verdict!
Our gardening work didn’t stop with harvesting. We sowed some salad seeds and planted basil to grow as a microgreen, ready for a future taste test on the school yard. We’re looking forward to seeing what the children think!
