Year 2 have made a fantastic start to their new English topic based on The Jolly Postman.
We began by becoming detectives and investigating clues hidden around the classroom. After lots of group discussion, the children shared their ideas and made some thoughtful predictions about what our new story might be about.
In our next lesson, we enjoyed hearing the story of The Jolly Postman before working together to organise key features into characters (who), settings (where) and actions (what). The children then used story mapping to sequence the events and practise orally retelling the story. Some pupils were even brave enough to perform their retelling in front of the class 🌟
Over the coming lessons, we will build on this learning as the children begin to create their own narrative and an exciting new addition to the story.
