Our gardening club session was all about harvesting one of our strawberry beds, and what a harvest it was! The children carefully picked the ripe strawberries before preparing them to enjoy the most Wimbledon-worthy treat of all… delicious jam and cream scones topped with fresh strawberries.
Even after everyone had enjoyed their own strawberries, we still harvested enough to fill two huge bowls, which were taken to our school kitchen for the children to enjoy as fresh strawberries and cream at lunchtime.
There’s something incredibly special about watching children harvest food they’ve grown themselves and then seeing it enjoyed across the whole school. From garden to table, what a fantastic way to celebrate the Wimbledon season!
We don’t think our strawberries would have looked out of place on Centre Court!
